General

If you are experiencing problems, its always best to check that you are using the latest version of U-Robot.  You can check this from the program's Help|About page.

The Copy/Move/Rename/Delete etc Action fails.

  • Check that the From and To fields are valid filenames and not folders.
  • Check the error message shown in the Log to determine what went wrong.

I run the program but nothing happens.

  • U-Robot may have been configured to automatically hide when it is run - check for the U-Robot icon in the system tray.
  • You can change the startup behaviour from the U-Robot options.

When I start the program, it says that U-Robot only supports 1 instance and then shuts down.

  • U-Robot is already running - check the system tray.
  • You have probably copied a shortcut to the Start|Programs|Startup folder and U-Robot is starting when you logon.

After I add 3 Actions, the [Add] button is greyed out on the Actions form.

  • U-Robot Personal Edition only supports a maximum of 3 Actions.  Consider purchasing the Profressional Edition

No Actions happen for changes in the watched folder.

  • Check that you are watching for changes in sub-directories.
  • Check that you have added Actions for the event that is occurring - are you handling the Modified event?
  • Check that the Folder is enabled.
  • U-Robot Personal Edition only supports a maximum of 3 Actions.  Consider purchasing the Profressional Edition.

What settings should I use for Cycle Time and Threshold.

  • Threshold is used to help prevent multiple events for the same underlying filesystem change.  It somewhat depends on the applications that are adding/modifying the files but a value of 5-10 seconds is ok for programs that copy/create files but a longer period may be required if files areperiodically being updated by a program.  Tune this setting based on experience with the folder being monitored.
  • Cycle Time can be set to any time that is greater than the Threshold but changes are more effectively handled if it is at least twice the Threshold time.
