Problem
1: When
I first run miFiles, it presents me with a Welcome screen
but I can't seem to get past this and run the program.
|
|
On
some systems, the Welcome form grows to a size that
is larger than the user's display and the [Accept] button
cannot be seen. The solution is to do one of the
following:
- Download
the file LicHack.zip and follow the directions
in the readme file.
- Update
miFiles to the latest version.

|
Problem
2: The Registration
Banner will not disappear.
|
|
The
registration banner will disappear when the following
details are correct: FirstName, LastName, Email and
RegCode. It does not matter if they are in upper
or lowercase but they must be correct.
The
registration service does not support foreign characters
so you must register without accents, umlaut etc.

|
Problem
3: Sometimes
I get the message "Connection Closed Gracefully".
What does this mean?
|
|
This
message is displayed when the server has unexpectedly
closed the connection. The server may do this because
its to busy to handle additional connections.
|
|
Problem
4: miFiles
doesn't seem to correctly remember passwords for some
sites.
|
|
miFiles
stores passwords in an 'encrypted' state. Earlier
versions of miFiles failed to correctly store a password
that contained the capital letter 'Z'. Please
download the latest version of miFiles to correct this
issue.
|
|
Problem
5: Why
does miFiles sometimes fail to recursively delete folders.
|
|
It
has been noted that some FTP servers are badly implemented
and will create hidden or undeletable files in the user
folders. miFiles cannot delete these files and
you must contact the server administrator to have these
folders deleted.
|
|
Problem
6: Sometimes
I get the message "Access Denied" when
I try to upload a file.
|
|
Normally
this problem is caused because the file already
exists on the server and is read-only or you don't have
appropriate permissions to overwrite it.
|
|
Problem
7: miFiles
doesn't seem to remember connection settings.
|
|
This
problem has been raised by a small number of customers
and appears to be caused by Registry lockdowns or by
spyware/adware prevention measures. miFiles stores
its per-user settings in the Registry and will not function
correctly unless it can read and write to the HK_CurrentUser
section.
|
|
Problem
8: I
have uploaded some files to share with others but they
can't seem to see/download them.
|
|
Some
FTP servers use UNIX style read/write permissions on
files and folders. You can use the File|Remote|Site|Change
Attributes command to change the UNIX permissions
for files and folders so that others can access the
files.
|
|
Problem
9: When
I connect to some sites, miFiles seems to get stuck
on "Fetching details for site..."
|
|
This
can happen for the following reasons:
- The
connection is a "PASSIVE" mode connection
and the server doesn't support this correctly.
- A
firewall is causing problems.
- The
server is extremely busy.
You
can try changing the connection to the server so that
it doesn't use "PASSIVE" mode. The connection
settings are available from the File|Settings|Connections
page.

|
Problem
10: When I
move/delete the shortcuts that were created at installation
time, they reappear next time I run the program.
|
|
This
is a known issue with the current installer because
it uses advertised shortcuts. This will be removed
in version 1.12c.
|
|
Problem
11: When I
try to register miFiles, I get the message "Unable
to write to .../miFiles.ini".
|
|
miFile
stores some global settings in a file called "mifile.ini"
that is stored in the install folder.. When you
register, it needs to save some changes in this file.
There are two main reasons why miFiles will fail
to write to this file (1) the file is read-only - check
this by examining the file's properties; (2) you have
installed some type system security program that is
preventing the updates to the ini file - in this case
you need to refer to that program's documentation on
how to allow ini updates.
|
|
Problem
12: When I
try to use feedback or register, I get the message "Unable
to contact Support Server".
|
|
miFiles
communicates to the Support server on port 26. Your
firewall must allow outgoing connections to port
26 for miFiles to contact the Support Server.
For
those who are behind a firewall. Registration is also
available from the Simdata Systems site here.

Question:
1: Can
I use this program within my organisation for work purposes?
|
|
Yes.
If multiple copies are required, then each copy
must be individually licensed to the person using it.
|
|
Question:
2: Can I connect
simultaneously to multiple FTP sites?
|
|
Yes.
While each miFiles session can only connect to
a single server, you can run multiple copies of miFiles
and thus have multiple connections open at the same
time.
|
|
Question:
3: Can I read
a text file on the server?
|
|
Yes.
You can double click on some file types and they
will be 'opened' or 'run'. To do this, you must
ensure that the "Open Remote Documents"
setting is enabled.
|
|
Question:
4: Can
we include your miFiles software on our magazine cover
CDs?
|
|
Yes
- provided that you follow the license agreements and
that miFiles forms less than 5% of the software titles
offered on the CD.
|
|
Question:
5: What
is the Log Window?
|
|
The
Log Window shows the communication between miFiles and
the FTP server. It can sometimes help to examine
the Log Window if unexpected events are occuring.
